The premium motor manufacturer will be rolling out the new high-performance EV – and it's the first of it's kind.

BWMare set to release an electric version of their M3 model, known as the Heart of Joy, in 2027.

It comes as the Government revealed BMW will invest heavily to "transform" their MINI plant in Oxford moving towards an all-electric future.

The BMW M-line has already proven to be a favourite with car lovers, after first hitting the market in 1986.

Current models offer an impressive 0 to 60mph acceleration time of just 6.5 seconds and can reach speeds of up to 146mph.

Speaking to AutoCar, Frank van Meel, boss of the high-performance M-line, explained: “The story of the M3 is everlasting

"Every time we change the story of the engine, from four-cylinder to six-cylinder to eight-cylinder to six-cylinder and a turbocharger, the story continues.

“Maybe it will go electric – but if it does, it will always be an M3."

This comes as data revealed EV prices have been slashed by nearly a quarter as drivers lose confidence.

Research by online motor marketplace, AutoTrader, revealed the average price for a used EV has dropped by 21.4 per cent this month.

It comes after the UK Prime Minister confirmed a delay on his ban of new petrol and diesel cars.

It was originally pledged to come into play by 2030, but has now been pushed back to 2035.
