Top festive break-in hotspots in the UK named
Britons are doubling down on security and taking extra precautions to ensure a secure holiday season.
Data from Howard Insurance has unveiled the areas most at risk of break-ins over the Christmas period. Will the vibrant streets of London snatch the spotlight, or will a quieter contender emerge?
South Yorkshire claims the top spot for holiday break-ins, with an average of 148 burglaries per 100,000 residents during November and December.
This translates to a yearly average of 2,040 burglaries in the region spanning Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
The numbers reveal a 12.31 percent increase in reported burglaries between 2020 and 2022, making it a notable hotspot for unwelcome surprises during the festive season.

Cleveland secures the second spot, clocking in with an average of 128 burglaries per 100,000 residents, while London claims the third position with an average of 110 burglaries per 100,000 people.
Norfolk, with its serene countryside, claims the title of the safest region, reporting an average of 38 burglaries per 100,000 residents. Staffordshire has faced the most significant surge in burglaries of 43.36 percent over the past three years, the largest increase recorded by any police force.
A spokesperson for Howden Insurance highlights the importance of safeguarding homes and gifts during the festive season. “With Christmas shopping in full swing, keeping gifts out of sight” to avoid tempting would-be thieves is important, especially when homes might be temporarily vacant as people visit family and friends.

Home Security System: Consider installing alarms, motion detectors, and security cameras if you don’t have a home security system.
Secure Doors and Windows: Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked before leaving. Reinforce entry points with deadbolt locks and consider additional security measures like bars or reinforcements.
Timed Lighting: Use timers for lights inside and outside your home to create the illusion of occupancy. ‘Smart plugs’ and bulbs can mimic your regular daily routines, further deterring potential burglars.
