Google Maps update adds genius feature that could save you time in the morning

GOOGLE Maps is reportedly testing a new feature that could save users ample time when commuting.

The latest Google Maps beta v11.28 is letting users pre-select their preferred choice of transport for in-app directions, according to a new report by 9to5Google.

Users are able to do this from within the main app via a new floating panel on the UI home screen.

Transportation options for preselection include driving, walking, train (rail), bus, bicycle, car service, and bike and scooter share.

Just under transportation, users can find 'Route options'which include selections to avoid tolls, highways, and ferries.

Users also have the choice of selecting routes that are fuel-efficient and/or wheelchair accessible.

Currently, these settings can only be adjusted on the Google app via Settings > Google Assistant > Account > You.

Once on that page, users can select their mode of transportation and other options.

It's clear that the new proposed changes could make this process a lot less cumbersome.

The beta version has only been released to a select number of Google Maps users, according to a report by Phone Arena.

Phone Arena also noted that when users select a mode of transportation with the new features, that selection will remain the default for the next journey.

For the majority at large, however, Google Maps currently defaults to the mode of transportation that users used last.

These new updates come after Google Maps introduced several other features just last month.
