‘Works every time!’ Mrs Hinch fans share easy tips to clean hobs – ‘streak free’

Cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, also known as Sophie Hinchliffe, made a name for herself after posting cleaning tips online. Currently with over four million Instagram followers, the guru is inspiring others with hacks to clean their homes. Now fans of the cleaning enthusiast have taken to creating their own Facebook groups dedicated to sharing hacks.
On one of these groups, one Mrs Hinch fan wanted to know how to clean her hob and get the metal gleaming again.
Laura Zoe Blackburn wrote: “Anyone have any idea how to get these marks off? Hob is three days old… cleaned yesterday and was sparkling. Today I’ve noticed it’s gone like this. I’ve used stainless steel spray but these marks won’t budge.”
Fortunately, the post was inundated with comments in minutes and other cleaning enthusiasts had many tips to offer.
The hacks involved both natural and chemical cleaning methods.
Some Mrs Hinch fans gave advice on what not to use when cleaning stainless steel hobs.
Farah Benis wrote: “Don’t use baby oil – especially on a brand-new hob. All it does is coat the surface over time and makes it more prone to discolouration and attracting dirt.
“It may seem like a great easy solution but it’s not actually good for your appliances long term, especially if using regularly.
“Use a microfibre cloth and water – if you’re getting streaks then try filtered water, it’s likely your water is hard. I use glass spray for stubborn fingerprints/streaks and it works perfectly well.”

Paula Neill commented: “I just use a normal kitchen degreaser like flash to clean the hob then use glass cleaner and wipe with kitchen roll. I tried baby oil and other ideas before finding something that worked for me.”
Brandon Abbott said: “Pink stuff and then don’t use the stainless steel spray. Every time I’ve used the stainless cleaner my hob goes rusty.”
Tracy Dell wrote: “Bar Keepers Friend on a wet sponge, then dry with a microfibre cloth.”
Even though some Hinchers warned cleaning enthusiasts to avoid using baby oil, others advised doing the opposite.
Heather Brown said: “A little bit of baby oil and clean off with kitchen roll.”
Natalie Mosley added: “Polish with a drop of baby oil using a microfibre cloth. The installer told me that trick.”
Teresa Leach recommended a natural tip, saying: “Coconut oil on a micro cloth. You only need a little, rub it until you can’t see any residue then next time you clean it just wipe it with the same cloth it should stay shiny and streak free.”
Jo Jo wrote: “I use Koh. It’s brilliant. Comes with cloths. Does everything.”
