Woman discovers ‘hidden feature’ in dishwasher to help save time and money

Internet users have been left stunned after discovering a “hidden feature” in their dishwashers that is designed to save time and stress.

The little-known characteristic of the home appliance was discussed in a clip of a woman loading wine glasses into the top rack of her dishwasher.

As she tried to close it, the foot of the glasses caught on the top of the machine. To solve the problem, however, she pushed a lever on each side of the rack to lower it slightly.

This allowed the glass to fit in effortlessly. The clip, which has sparked more than 2,500 comments, was captioned: “Shook. My whole life is a lie.”

One user commented on the video: “I just tried it and it worked but I don’t know how to get it back up there.”

Another chimed in: “I didn’t even know that thing is used to lean cups against.”

A third person wrote: “I went 29 years not knowing this. You get to learn at 12.”

“Literally lived in my flat for nine months and you’ve just changed my life,” quipped one other user.

The revelation comes shortly after a cleaning expert – who goes by Clean OF Queen Lynsey – claimed most people are using their dishwashers wrong, putting unnecessary strain on their finances.

Speaking on This Morning, the cleaning guru explained: “Most dishwashers today are powerful enough to get all the gunk off, so a lot of pre-rinsing by hand is often just a waste of water and time.”

To save money, the woman also suggested: “Ditch the rinse aid and instead use white vinegar. It is a lot cheaper and does the same job.”

Lynsey also recommends sticking “to good quality tablets” as they are more effective and will save you from having to wash the same dishes twice.

Dishwasher owners can also benefit from running the dishwasher exclusively when it is completely full and by setting the machine to an eco-cycle.

“Every modern dishwasher has a special energy-efficiency setting that uses less power to heat the water by heating the water more slowly over a longer cycle,” noted Lynsey.

Using this feature alongside the Lyncess hack for drying dishes could help save yet more money.

She added: “To avoid doing the full drying cycles, simply grab a tea towel and at the end of the cleaning cycle, place the towel within the door of the dishwasher and close it.

“All you have to do is wait five minutes, and the dishes will be dry and ready to be put away.”
