Britons should steer clear of certain improvements which could impact a home’s aesthetic and may even reduce its value, according to property expert Thomas Goodman from MyJobQuote.co.uk.
1. Using matching flatpack furniture
The expert said: “Filling a room with matching flatpack furniture is a sure-fire way to make a room look tacky. Flatpack furniture is instantly recognisable due to its lack of design and flimsy construction.
“These pieces of furniture serve a purpose but do nothing for interior design. If you’re on a tight budget, try opting for second-hand furniture that has some character rather than instantly turning to flatpack furniture for an attractive price.
“Second-hand pieces are often even cheaper than flatpack pieces and will bring some personality to your indoor space.

“Plus, second-hand furniture tends to be much sturdier and more durable than flatpack furniture, which can often be very flimsy and may start to fall apart after a few short months of use.”
2. Too much DIY furniture
A singular DIY piece of furniture is a great way to add texture to rooms as well as repurpose old pieces.
However, according to the pro, Britons should avoid adding too many DIY furniture items to any one room to avoid it looking “cheap”.
3. Broken driveway
The property pro said: “If the driveway leading up to your home is old, broken, or particularly dirty, this could make your home look cheap.

“If you have a front lawn, be sure to keep this looking neat and tidy. Outdoor lights can help to improve the appearance of the front garden at night.”
