I'm furious over a £60 fine for staying in a car park too long – I'd left & come back, I was even in a different spot | The Sun

A FURIOUS couple have blasted a parking firm after they were fined £60 for staying in a car park for less than two hours.

Mike and Nicky Beesley used the Chester car park twice in one dayand were slapped with a £60 fine after an IT glitch failed to recognise them leaving.

Ms Beesley believed the faulty monitoring system merged the two visits together and slammed Park with Ease after discovering several other people had been caught out by the same mistake.

The furious resident told Cheshire Live: "This has made me so cross as there are some people who would just pay it.

"My husband received a letter from them saying that his car had been parked at the shops on 2nd July for more than the allotted two hour free parking.

"They have sent us a picture of the car at around 12pm and again at 3.54pm on that day but in different parts of the car park."

Confused by the fine, Ms Beesley emailed to explain they had visited the shop more than once that day, and urged them to review CCTV footage.

"They may well find one or both of us driving in and out more than twice that day – who knows?!" she added.

"But under no circumstances would we ever have cause to stay on that car park longer than it takes to either pick something up from the chemist or buy bits and bobs from the Spar."

Green Lane car park in Vicars Cross has wrongly charged multiple residents, according to the Beesleys, and they feared not everyone would have the confidence to appeal.

"I am sure there will be many people who would be intimidated by these letters and will just pay up when they have done nothing wrong," she continued.

Their appeal via an organisation called the Independent Appeals Services was sucessful after a number of emails back and forth.

However, the concerned resident pointed out some people won't be confident with technology or know how to appeal and end up paying the fine.

Great Boughton Parish Council clerk, Kath Lloyd said they had been made aware of "lots of people" getting a letter to demand money.

Ms Lloyd agreed it was concerning and those who do not know how to appeal should contact Citizens Advice.

She said:"A lot of people are very stressed by it and others have been very angry.

"I've had a fine myself and I appealed but that's not easy for everybody to do.

"We are concerned that more vulnerable people getting caught up with it and with receiving this letter would just pay the fine. It's very distressing."

According to the parish council clerk, their MP Chris Matheson and other local councillors are aware of this issue.
