King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla are busy in Scotland today (October 3) for their first public joint engagements since the royal mourning period ended. As King, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, or Holyrood Palace as it is often known, is now his official residence in the capital of Scotland, and he will likely spend a lot of time there over the coming years of his reign.
Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have visited Dunfermline to commemorate its new status as a city.
The King and Queen Consort arrived to cheering crowds and Charles smiled as he shook hands and greeted people.
During a visit to the City Chambers, Charles formally marked the conferral of Dunfermline’s new status, stating he was “delighted” when it was announced the town would become a city.
He said he hoped people would feel a “real sense of pride in this new chapter”.
The monarch will also attend a ceremony marking the 950th anniversary of Dunfermline Abbey.
A reception will be held at the King’s official residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, later today.
The event in Edinburgh will welcome between 200 to 300 members of the British South Asian communities to recognise contributions they have made to the National Health Service, arts, media, education, business and the Armed Forces.
Poignantly, Charles will also hold his first investiture ceremony as King.

Where is Holyrood Palace?
Holyrood Palace is located at the end of the Royal Mile, nearby to the historic Edinburgh Castle which houses the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Honours of Scotland.
The palace has been associated with important historical figures including Mary, Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Visitors to Holyrood Palace can visit the State Apartments and the Throne Room, as well as tour the palace gardens.
Next to the palace is Holyrood Abbey, a grand abbey where the late Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall posed for pictures with her new husband Mike Tindall after their 2011 wedding.
Holyrood Palace houses several pieces of art, and the Queen’s Gallery exhibits creations from the Royal Collection Trust.
Charles was pictured earlier this month inside Holyrood Palace with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon following the Queen’s death.
The Queen traditionally spent a week over the summer at the palace every year during ‘Holyrood Week’.
During this time, the monarch would host a garden party and attend engagements around the local area.
The late Queen was often joined by her son and heir Charles and other working members of the Royal Family in Scotland during this period.
At the start of the week, the Queen would be welcomed to the forecourt of Holyrood Palace with the Ceremony of the Keys led by the Lord Provost.
Sometimes the Thistle Service was held at St Giles’ Cathedral during previous Holyrood Weeks.
