Cobham wins top motorway service station – where does your favourite rank?

A MOTORWAY service station with 13 eating options and 4,620 parking spots is the best in the country.

The M25 stop-off at Cobham, Surrey, came top out of 100 as millions of us holiday at home this year.

Among its food outlets are a Pizza Express, Nando’s plus sushi and Indian restaurants.

Cobham is run by Extra, which also has runner-up Beaconsfield on the M40 in Bucks.

Both offered electric vehicle charging, hotel and wifi.

Extra’s Andrew Long said: “We’re proud to be recognised for our great range of facilities including numerous popular food outlet brands and fantastic play areas for children.”

Worst was the M6 services at Carnforth, Lancs.

It had just two food outlets and no charging points for electric cars.

Operator Truckhaven was approached for comment.

Northgate Vehicle Hire, which carried out the research, said: “With overseas travel restrictions still in place, two thirds of us are planning staycations this year, meaning millions on the roads.

“Service stations are just as much a part of long journeys as playlists, car games and arguments about directions.

“It’s no wonder that 45 per cent of us will plan service station stops before a journey.”

Google searches for last-minute UK holidays have risen by over 1,000 per cent in the last three months.
