PS5 SWITCHES MIC ON BY DEFAULT

Your PS5 now has an embedded mic in the controller that is active by default.

Players could find this creepy, but also annoying for others if you don’t know that you’re broadcasting.

Change the default settings by going to Settings > Sound > Microphone > Microphone Status When Logged In > Mute.

Unmute manually by hitting a button on your controller when you do want to use a mic going forward.

The mute light will show up on your controller when on.

    PS5 DUALSENSE CONTROLLERS REPORTEDLY BREAKING

Gamers are reportedly highlighting problems with the PS5 DualSense controllers.

According to Hot Hardware some adaptive triggers have stopped offering resistence making them feel like the old controllers.

“A few days ago, I was swinging around in Miles Morales when I felt the R2 snap and immediately become looser,” wrote EeK9X.

“It was as if whatever was causing the trigger to 'resist' broke, causing it to go back to being a regular, non-adaptive trigger.”

      COMING SOON…

It's all gotten a bit grim for Brits this Christmas, but fear not: There are plenty of great PS5 games to look forward to!

Next year promises to be a massive one for Sony, with a slew of big-budget games that could make (or break) its next-generation console.

New entries to the Hitman and Ride series will hopefully start 2021 off with a bang in January.

And those titles are swiftly followed by Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Sega's eighth releases in the popular Yakuza RPG series.

Gamers also have Far Cry 6, Gran Turismo 7 and a new Resident Evil to look forward to – though their release dates are a little more tentative.

Check out the list below, first reported by PushSquare, for the PS5's full line up for 2021!

      January 2021

      • MXGP 2020 – The Official Motocross Videogame – January 14
      • Hitman 3 – January 20
      • RIDE 4 (PS5) – January 21
      • Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy – January 26 (US) and January 29 (UK/EU)
      • Cyber Shadow – January 26
      • The Pedestrian – January 2021 (tentative)

      CONTINUED

“You're about to play the PS4 version of this game,” the message reads, according to a screen grab shared by Twitter user @Tidux.

“Do you want to switch to the PS5 version?”

It's a useful addition. Last month, Eurogamer reported that Call of Duty fans were frequently playing the wrong version of the game by mistake.

Those who choose the Download All option after purchasing the game's Ultimate Edition or Cross-Gen Bundle from the PlayStation Store get both the old-gen and next-gen versions.

The trouble is, the PS5 would automatically boot up the PS4 version of the game when gamers hit play.

That meant players weren't getting the highest end graphics and performance provided by the PS5 version of the first-person shooter.

      LEVEL UP

Your PlayStation 5 now warns you if you're about to play the PS4 versions of your games.

An update issued to Sony's next-gen consoles this week added the message, which pops up whenever you play cross-gen titles.

Some games, such as Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, can run either the PS4 or PS5 version on the new machine.

Players had previously complained that the PS5 didn't make clear whether they were playing PS4 or PS5 variants.

It meant some gamers were inadvertently playing second-rate versions of games with worse graphics and frame rates.

Following a recent software update, a pop-up now asks which generation you would like to play.

PARENTS' CHRISTMAS PRANK SPARKS OUTRAGE ONLINE

Two parents have sparked outrage online after tricking their children into thinking they had been given a PS5 for Christmas.

Dozens of users criticised the pair after footage posted to Instagram showed them howling with laughter over the prank.

In the clip, two boys are seen in the centre of a living room opening a large square present.

After tearing away some of the wrapping paper, they see that inside is a PS5 box, and immediately fall to the floor screaming and hugging one another.

The pair then open the box and, looking confused, begin pulling shoes, cardboard, and other household items.

        VERY UPDATE

Hopefuls planning to buy the PS5 have been keeping a keen eye on online retailer, Very.

However, it doesn't look like a restock will be here any time soon, and if it does come, it will probably be announced last minute to stop resellers from buying large stock and selling it again at an inflated rate.

The current message on the Very site reads: “ “Unfortunately we have sold out of our PS5 consoles for now. We have more stock coming, so keep checking back for our next drop.”

        TARGET RESTOCKS

Target has restocked the PS5 but only for pick-up at location.

Experts say, though some stock has sold out, on a whole PS5s are holding longer than usual in stores – meaning you might be able to snap one up.

Techradar.com said: “It's limited by region right now, and we're rapidly seeing a large number of stores with limited numbers available, or completely out of stock. However, we're continuing to monitor, and the stocks are holding longer than expected.”
