Simple money saving tips to help you save on the food shop in November
As the cost of some of the cheapest food items like pasta has soared more than 60 percent, Britons have been telling Express.co.uk how the cost of the food shop is just as concerning as the price of their energy bills. Some have been sharing how they have been saving hundreds of pounds on the food shop to help others survive the cost of living crisis.
Eilish Stout-Cairns, 26, from Newcastle, has saved hundreds of pounds since adopting three money saving methods she now swears by.
The are sticking to ASDA’s new Just Essentials range, comparing supermarket deals online before heading out the door and only taking £5 with her to do the food shop, according to The Mirror.
She said: “I actually try now to only go in with a £5 note. If I stick to value products I can normally get enough food for quite a while.”
However, people with families will need to spend much more than £5 on the food shop – the good news is there are plenty of other ways they can save too.

People can save up to £1,000 a year by planning their meals in advance and by batch cooking, experts insist.
David Harrison, an 80-year-old pensioner from Bristol, said him and his wife save £50 a month by batch cooking.
He told Express.co.uk: “We’re a bit old fashioned the way we cook we don’t keep buying takeaways and things like that so we’re managing.
“There’s only two of us but we’ve still got two freezers,” he added. “We would be saving by batch cooking – probably about £50 a month.”

A young mum recently told Express.co.uk people can save £60 a week following Aldi’s new meal plan.
The average cost of the weekly food shop for a family in the UK is £108, according to a study by Nimblefins.
Ashleigh Mogford, also known as Cardiff Mum, says her family have tried Aldi’s new frozen meal plan which costs just over £40 a week and it was “a huge eye opener”.
She told Express.co.uk:“No-one would ever know the difference – my family didn’t – and frozen fruit and veg have more nutrients than fresh.
“I really love the fact that there is less waste and although I only spend £50 a week on my food shop I know many others spend £100 plus.”
One way to save money on the food shop that a lot of people may not have tried is to join a local food club like Bristol resident Elaine Wishart.
Elaine, 54, told Express.co.uk: “It’s open to anyone and you pay £3.50 a week and it’s what supermarkets are about to throw away.
“They bring it to a food club and you can pick what you want from different stations.
“I reckon each week I get about £20 to £25 worth of stuff for £3.50 and you never know what you are getting.”
