Sir David Attenborough’s quiet life in London suburb where average home is £1m

BBC celebrate Sir David Attenborough's 97th birthday

Sir David has been appearing on Britons’ television screens for decades with some of his greatest triumphs including Natural World, the Planet Earth franchise and The Blue Planet.

The 97-year-old has made history as the only person to have won a BAFTA Award in black and white, colour, high-definition, 3D and 4K resolution.

He has also collected a plethora of accolades over the years including honorary degrees and three Emmy Awards.

Sir David has also more recently been more vocal about his support of environmental issues including advocating for a reduction in meat consumption.

The writer and broadcaster has been labelled a National Treasure in the UK.

But it’s not just Sir David who’s well-known in the Attenborough family. His brother was the late director, producer and actor Richard Attenborough who famously appeared in Jurassic Park and Miracle on 34th Street.

Sir David was born in Isleworth, Middlesex and grew up on the campus of the University of Leicester where his father was principal.

These days, Sir David resides in Richmond which he has described as his “favourite place on Earth”.

The affluent, residential area borders the River Thames and is home to Kew Gardens. Richmond Park is also a very popular green space where herds of deer can be seen.

The main street in Richmond has plenty of posh eateries, eclectic boutiques and cafes.

Homes don’t come cheap in Richmond. In fact, the properties in Richmond had an overall average price of £1,063,479 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

The majority of sales in Richmond during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £553,629.

Terraced properties sold for an average of £1,096,331, with semi-detached properties fetching £1,669,220.

Overall, sold prices in Richmond over the last year increased by four percent compared to the previous year.

Sold prices were also seven percent up on the 2020 peak of £990,333.
