Vanesa Amaro is a housekeeper and self-proclaimed “Queen of Cleaning” who makes exclusive video content on TikTok and Instagram. The cleaning expert currently has a following of 1.1M followers on her Instagram page @vanesa_amaro.

In a video posted to her audience of 5.5M followers on her TikTok page @vanesamaro91, she explained how to clean stubborn mattress stains with just a few spritzes of a homemade cleaning solution.

In the video, she said: “I’m a housekeeper and I will show you how to remove stains from your mattress with things you already have at home. You’re going to need a toothbrush, a spray bottle, of course, two cups of water, then one cup of hydrogen peroxide, only five drops of your favourite natural dish soap, and this part is optional but you can add five drops of your favourite essential oil.”

Vanessa begins by gently mixing the liquid ingredients together and adding them to a spray bottle. She continued: “Now, add a few sprays and use your toothbrush to brush it out.”

Hydrogen peroxide is an eco-friendly manufactured chemical, although small amounts of hydrogen peroxide gas may occur naturally in the air. The chemical is capable of breaking up strong chemical bonds in stains rendering them invisible.

After scrubbing the stain with the solution, Vanesa explained: “Grab a white towel and blot the stain out.”

Using a white towel will stop any other colours or dyes from transferring to your mattress while blotting stops the stain from smudging. Vanesa added: “Repeat the process until the stain is gone.”

How to clean stains from your mattress

To begin, combine two cups of water with one cup of hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Then, add five drops of your favourite natural dishwashing soap.

If you want your spray to be scented, add five drops of your favourite essential oil such as lavender or eucalyptus. Mix all of the liquids gently in the bottle and then it is time to spray.

Spritz the solution onto the stained area, making sure not to heavily soak the mattress. Then, using an old toothbrush, scrub at the stain. Next, using a white towel, gently blot at the stain to lift it. Repeat this process to see the stain gradually lift and vanish.
