Drivers warned not pressing button on their dashboard during heatwave could cost them a £5,000 fine | The Sun
BRITAIN is currently sizzling in the hottest UK temperatures ever recorded.
For drivers, this could easily mean a hefty fine if you aren't prepared out on the road.
Air conditioning is a common feature on new cars these days, but there are plenty of older cars on our roads without it.
With temperatures approaching 40C, even having the window down is unlikely to be much use when trying to cool down.
Zuto car finance wants to remind drivers that Rule 237 of the Highway Code says you must keep your vehicle well-ventilated to avoid drowsiness.
It urges drivers to remember that driving in the sweltering temperatures this week will make it a lot harder to maintain a correct state of mind while behind the wheel.
Not doing so could result in an accident and a fine of up to £5,000.

To ensure that you avoid any drowsiness or light-headedness while on the roads this week, make sure the AC is on at a comfortable level.
And even if your car does have air-conditioning it's often easy to have it switched off and no realise.
Always look for the AC button and make sure the light is illuminated indicating that the system if operating.
It's also worth checking to make sure your air-con system hasn't run out of gas.

If it has, you'll need to get it topped up in order for it to blow cold air again.
It depends on the car and sort of air-con system you have, but this can cost anywhere between £30-£200 to do.
That said, the majority of systems can be re-gassed for between £50-£100 and many places.

Commenting on the research, Lucy Sherliker, head of customer at Zuto Car Finance says:
“Although many people are unaware of these Highway Code Rules, it’s important to know the laws of the road, not only to avoid being financially penalised, but to also keep everyone safe while driving."
