Drivers could be saved £1,000s in speeding fines as new tech set to be rolled out

NEW tech to stop drivers going too fast could mean the end of speed cameras.

Ford reckons its device will slow vehicles down automatically.

GPS technology identifies a vehicle entering a speed restricted area and slows the car to comply with the limit.

It is being trialled in Cologne, Germany.

Brian Gregory, of the ­Alliance of British Drivers, told The Sun: “This means drivers could save thousands in speeding fines, but it won’t necessarily reduce the risk of accidents or casualties.

“Motorists need to pay more attention to the roads and technology does not always make driving safer.”

Ford boasted the tech will reduce the need for speed limit signs.

It will only work with modern cars connected to the internet and the restrictions can be turned off.

Ford Europe’s Michael Huynh insisted: “Connected vehicle technology has the potential to help make everyday driving easier and safer.”
