Architect George Clarke has taken to social media once again to share his property insights. The presenter of George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations was criticising the “planning system” in a market town in Shropshire called Oswestry. George posted a photo on his Instagram page of the Oswestry Guildhall, a stunning Grade-II listed building that was built in 1893.
Next to the building is Oswestry Indoor Market which was reportedly reconstructed in 1963, according to Market Trade News.
The newer building looks out of place next to the picturesque Renaissance-style guildhall.
He said on Instagram: “Clearly a day where the planning system completely lost its mind.”
One person asked the architect: “What did they do George?”

George replied: “Look right… shocker.”
Other Instagram users agreed with George, describing the design as “shocking” and the newer building as a “monstrosity”.
One person said: “Shocking design by the architect.”
Another individual replied: “Is that actually a building? Thought it was painted ply cut out!”

A third user wrote: “The old building is beautiful. Big mistake.”
A fourth penned: “It’s disgusting. There needs to be a skill revival.
“Bring back all the old stone techniques.”
Another Instagram user said: “It’s an ugly building inside and out.

“They demolished a lovely-looking old market building to build that.”
One person described the newer building as a “monstrosity” while another called the building an “eyesore next to a magnificent one”.
Another person, who claimed to be the Deputy Mayor of Oswestry, said he also “agreed” with George.
He commented on the post: “George, I am the Deputy Mayor of Oswestry.

“I’d love to argue against your post and defend our little town, but I can’t help but agree with you.
“Whoever designed and allowed the market to be built to that design is mad.
“Can you help us? We b****y need it!”
George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4
