As lockdown restrictions continue to slowly ease across the country, home buyers are looking to spa towns to enjoy the bustle of the town while still being surrounded by stunning scenery. Spa towns, which are rich with history and period homes, seem to be a popular choice as they offer the best of both worlds. They’re large enough to have everything you need, and small enough to still be quiet and more relaxed than cities.
So where are UK home buyers looking at the moment? Rightmove has named six of the most sought-after spa towns on their site now:
Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
Average asking price in Leamington Spa: £338,025
Probably one of the most popular spa towns in the country, Leamington Spa is beautiful and packed full of period properties.
The town has everything you could need – cafes, restaurants, pubs, great shops and plenty of nearby walks.
For those looking to commute to London, the train takes around an hour and 20 minutes, while Stratford is just 20 minutes away by car.
There are plenty of Victorian houses but a Regency townhouse could cost you over £1million.
The majority of sales in Leamington Spa during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £334,868, according to Rightmove.
Bath, Somerset
Average asking price in Bath: £486,062
Another famous English spa town, known for its bustling streets, boutique shops, bars and restaurants.
Bath is also home to the restored Roman baths so you can always head for a dip, if you fancy.
The majority of sales in Bath during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £516,442, according to Rightmove.
Some of the most gorgeous, period properties in Bath are Georgian, with The Circus being one of the most renowned residential addresses in the city.
Matlock, Derbyshire
Average asking price in Matlock, Derbyshire: £285,697
Surrounded by the countryside, Matlock is great if you love outdoor adventures and lots of green space.
Located at the foot of the Peak District, and close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, Matlock can offer buyers the best of both worlds.
The town has an open air theatre, lots of shops, food festivals, pubs and a bustling square.
The majority of sales in Matlock during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £237,626, according to Rightmove.

Builth Wells, Powys, Wales
Average asking price in Builth Wells, Wales: £274,725
If you’re looking for an affordable option in the heart of Wales, then there is nowhere better than Builth Wells.
The town is small but there is plenty to do with riding schools and other sports clubs in abundance.
Going into town, you will find old pubs, tea rooms, antique shops and boutiques.
The old cattle market has also been converted into an arts centre with a theatre and cinema screen.
You can buy a four-bedroom detached property for around £300,000, making it a good option for first time buyers.

Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Located just 45 minutes outside of central London, Tunbridge Wells is the perfect spot for commuters.
The area has some brilliant schools, which will appeal to buyers with families or those looking to start a family.
Properties range from huge manor houses worth millions to 1930s family homes, new builds and cosy flats.

Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Average asking price in Scarborough, North Yorkshire: £186,772
Scarborough is close to both the Yorkshire Moors and the beach, so it’s great for those looking for a bit of both.
The nearest major city is York which has links to most major cities in the north.
The town has plenty of traditional pubs, fish and chip shops, restaurants and shops.
