They shared pictures of black marks on a light brown carpet and asked for tips to remove the stains.
The homeowner stated: “My little boy decided to decorate my carpet with a bingo dauber.
“I’ve tried carpet cleaner, vanish, washing powder and hairspray. It’s not budging can anyone suggest something else please?”
The woman explained she had tried a number of things to clean up the stain but had no success.
The post soon gathered nearly 400 ‘likes’ and 160 comments as other Facebook users shared their hacks.
Some suggested using make-up and nail polish remover to get rid of the stain.
One wrote: “Nail varnish remover! I use it to get hair dye out carpet.”
A second homeowner agreed, stating: “Nail varnish remover?”
A third commented: “Gentle eye makeup remover! And blot it, don’t rub it.”
The homeowner updated her post to share she would try the method out on her carpet.
Carpets should be cleaned regularly, whether there are visible stains or not.
A carpet can benefit from being professionally cleaned once a year.
However, it can be freshened up by hoovering twice a week.
Those who have pets and children could benefit from cleaning carpets as often as three to seven times a week.
